Weston Hospicecare held its first Operation: Hospice Heroes event on 19th July. Teams competed head to head in a variety of challenges in order to ‘save the day’ and raise money for their local Hospice, it appeared even the sun was on their side. The Garden & Leisure Group entered a team who went on to be the eventual winners. The team consisted of members of Head Office staff with representatives from IT, Marketing, Personnel and Accounts.
In teams of 4, participants took part in an adrenalin filled petrol go carting race at Premier Leisure, Oldmixon Cresent, whilst being chased by ‘the bad guys’.
They then moved to ACF Hospitalities, Aldwick Court Farm where they set their sights on targets to tackle Air Rifle Shooting, used their wits and navigational skills on a GPS marked treasure hunt to crack clues and win time for their next challenge: building a get-away cart.
Then it was back to the track for the Heroes where they took on the mini challenge – but the only thing small about it was the cars. Finally the teams took to the Segway assault course which tested their balance and coordination and seemed to cause a lot of laughs amongst the group.
Angus Lewis, The Garden & Leisure Group commented: “It was an absolutely amazing day out, well organised and action-packed. The Hospice is such a great cause which we are proud to support and a big thank you goes out to everyone involved and to the wonderful people who sponsored us to achieve our £1000 target!”
Sarah Livermore, Corporate Fundraiser for the Hospice said: “This was such a fun filled and action-packed day which everyone enjoyed and the money raised will help make a difference to local people with life limiting illnesses and their loved ones that we will care for this year. That is enough money to pay for our Children’s Bereavement Services for 2 whole weeks which is a brilliant achievement’.
